Edward Mallory, 76, who played Dr. Bill Horton on NBC's Days of Our Lives for 14 years passed away last Wednesday after a long illness. Edward appeared on the NBC soap from 1966 to 1980.

All My Children Head Writer Fired!

ABC Daytime has fired Megan McTavish from her post as head writer of All My Children. The network said that her successor would be named at a later date.

Stepping into the hosting position on NBC's The Biggest Loser will be Alison Sweeney (Days of Our Lives), and stepping away will be Caroline Rhea who has chosen to "pursue other interests", reports Variety. 

SOAPnet has ordered 13 one-hour episodes of its first exclusive, serialized drama called General Hospital: Night Shift (workin title).

The weekly drama will center on the soap's current characters and give viewers an extension of what happens during the nighttime hours at the hospital.

The series is expected to premiere this summer and will be cross-promoted during the daytime version of General Hospital on ABC.

The Daytime Emmy winner has played Dr. Alan Quartermaine on the ABC sudser since 1977. Word is, Dr. Q will suffer a fatal heart attack in February sweeps.... Which sucks, because he always was a GREAT character on the canvas....

FROM TMZ   Soap Star Attacked, Decks Obsessed Fan

TMZ has obtained a restraining order filed by veteran "Days of Our Lives" actor Drake Hogestyn against a man he says assaulted him in his home on New Year's Eve, and "physically tried to exorcise the devil from me."

Hogestyn says Cheney was "calling me by my stage name... recalling past storylines, especially the demonic possession of several years past.

But more important, he thought I was dead, because the show that aired on Friday 12.29.06 left my character John Black shot & presumed dead."

Hogestyn, who was on a ladder painting his house, says Cheney grabbed and pushed his wife backwards on their patio stairs.

At that time, Hogestyn "grabbed him by the hair, spun him around, delivered a right cross to the chin that sent him down the stairs." According to the restraining order the struggle continued for 10 minutes until Hogestyn and his 25-year-old son Ben were able to subdue Cheney by duct-taping the intruder's hands and feet until police arrived.

Cheney was transported to the L.A. County Jail where he is still in custody on $150,000 bail. According to the court documents, a map with directions from Portland to Hogestyn's home were found in the front seat of Cheney's car.

Hogestyn, who has played John Black on NBC's "Days" for over 20 years, says he was with his family in the backyard of their Malibu home when Carl Raymond Cheney of Portland, OR came onto his property and ran at his daughter carrying a bible screaming "Where is he? I will cast him out!"

'AMC' Introducing Transgender Character

NEW YORK (AP) - In a story unusual even for a soap opera and believed to be a television first, ABC's "All My Children" this week will introduce a transgender character who is beginning to make the transition from a man into a woman.

The character, a flamboyant rock star known as Zarf, kisses the lesbian character Bianca and much drama ensues. The storyline begins with Thursday's episode of the daytime drama.

Oh No! All My Children Fires Vincent Irizarry

ABC's All My Children is dropping daytime vet Vincent Irizarry, who has played the devious Dr. David Hayward since 1998.

I worked with Vincent about 10 years ago... on another daytime show.. He is an amazing, terrific guy, hopefully another show will scoop him up ASAP

AMC wrote his character into a corner years ago... Time for him to be on a show that shows his talants...

EP - Julie Hanan Carruthers said, "Vincent Irizarry has been a valued member of the AMC cast for many years."  "The decision to write the David character off the canvas was both financial and storyline based.

Budgetary belt-tightening seems to be a sad fact in daytime soaps.

No word yet on Irizarry's final airdate on AMC.
